Thanksgiving Picture Books For Young Children

November is a fabulous time to get to know some picture books about Thanksgiving.  These seem particularly appropriate for younger children.  They are listed in no particular order.

1.  I Know An Old Lady Who Swallowed A Pie by Allison Jackson and illustrated by Judy Schachner

2.  Ten Fat Turkeys by Tony Johnston

3.  The Pilgrim's First Thanksgiving by Ann McGovern and illustrated by Elroy Freem

4.  Five Silly Turkeys by Salina Yoon

5.  The Pilgrims and Me by Judy Donnelly and illustrated by Maryann Cocca-Leffler

6.  Pilgrim Cat by Carol Antoinette Peacock and illustrated by Doris Ettlinger

7.  The Perfect Thanksgiving by Eileen Spinelli and illustrated by JoAnn Adinolfi

8.  Thanks for Thanksgiving by Julie Markus and illustrated by Doris Barrette

9.  Ankle Soup by Maureen Sullivan and Alison Josephs

What do you like to read in November?

My children are all grown up but we'll all spend hours reading over the holidays. I'll probably reread The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo before the movie comes out.

Carla,
Your topic caught my eye. Great suggestions. I will have to check them out. I found a real unusual book to review. Great time to be thanksful! Thanks for the suggestions!

Thanks for the suggestions, Carla. I think reading a couple of these to the little ones gathered with us on Thanksgiving Day would make a good activity. I'll make a note to check them out :-)

We don't celebrate Thanksgiving in Australia, but ever since I spent one in the US, we've cooked up a feast every November anyway!

I was just at the bookstore today, and felt disappointed at the selection of Thanksgiving books. Thanks for the list. :)

Susan, That sounds like fun!

Patricia, Some I've read; some I haven't...they all look great, though!

Kenda, I think reading is great for any occasion!

Amie, Any excuse to party, right?!

Susanna, Probably either 1 or 4, but I've really enjoyed all that I've looked at!

Michelle, I think that most holidays could use more books, but they're a hard sell because they tend to be seasonal!
