Picture Books
The best thing you can do if you want to write picture books is to read and study them! Here are three excellent examples of very well-written picture books. Children love them and adults (at least this one!) can enjoy reading them over...and over and over. They all have a creative story line with an unexpected ending.

Postcards

Pitches
Susanna Hill, a children's book author, hosts a weekly Would You Read It? meme where she posts a pitch and her readers comment on whether or not they would be interested in the book. Today, my unpublished story, Witches Don't Dance is the pitch for the week! I'd love to read your comments on her blog about your reaction to my pitch!

I post on my blog 3 times a week. It works well for me! I think that's a good amount of posts because there's often something new when people come around, but it's not so much that anyone will miss something important.

Laura, They've made it to libraries, but I think any child would be happy to own them! They are a lot of fun! I can see 3 times a week pretty easily...except when I have one of "those" weeks! I do like your supply of new material, though! And thanks for commenting on the pitch!

I try to post at least two times a week. Even that is hard sometimes. As for the blogs I read, I can get a little overwhelmed by how many there are that I would like to get to. So I kind of like it when there aren't so many.

I usually do 2 posts a week, (T & Th), but sometimes, if I have a lot of writing related events to talk about (book signings, etc), I post 3x a week. :P

I post every day, M-F. It's a little daunting, though. But I'm convinced it gets more people to my blog more often.
My favorite picture book of all time is Saturday Night at the Dinosaur Stomp. The only one I can stand reading over and over and over. It's really fabulous.

I usually post twice a week. I used to post three times a week, which is ideal, I think, but it was took much to keep up with. I know some who post nearly every day, and that's overboard in my opinion, unless they keep it short and sweet.

The how-many-times-to-post-a-week question is a good one! I always post twice a week, and often three times. I really don't like to do any more than that because I think it gets overwhelming to readers - no one has that much time, and there are so many great blogs to read. But there are so many things I want to do that I can't fit into only 2-3 posts a week! I'm thinking of reworking my schedule to include one or two monthly items - you know, like an author spotlight on the third Thursday of every month or something.... It's all about organization, though... Thanks for mentioning Would You Read It!

Love your Three Ps! I used to blog twice a week, but I've found that with so much else to do, once a week means my content is better. I'd rather fewer posts but with higher quality from the blogs I follow.

Susanna, I've thought about monthly themes too...I actually had plans to start one this month, but had to delay it because of sick kids. :( I suppose the beautiful thing about months is that they just keep coming!
